Valis is an engineered European oak plank from our standard range, grouped with our lighter oak colours. The name does not describe the colour well, so we recommend seeing it in person. It is on display at our Camberwell showroom, and we can give you a free sample to look at in your own light.
What we can tell you is how it is made. Each board is 1900 × 190 × 15 mm, with a 4 mm layer of real oak on top of a layered core. That wear layer is generally thick enough to take sanding and refinishing later in the floor's life. The edges have a micro bevel, the joints are tongue and groove, and the surface is brushed with a matte finish. A pack holds six boards and covers 2.166 m².
We suggest placing the sample on the floor rather than against a wall, as that is how you will see it. Look at it next to your kitchen doors, skirting and any timber furniture you are keeping. Check it once in daylight and again at night under your usual globes. Light boards change more between those two than dark ones.
Lighter oak is a safe choice for most houses in Melbourne's east, from a single-fronted weatherboard in Hawthorn to a new unit in Blackburn. The 190 mm plank is sized for ordinary rooms, so it works equally in bedrooms and a mid-sized living area.
If Valis is close but not quite right, compare White Smoke for a paler, whitewashed look or Natural Oak for a classic mid tone. Other pale boards are on the light oak and blonde tones page, and every colour is in the engineered oak range.
Valis is glued to a slab or fixed over a timber subfloor once moisture and flatness are checked. After that, regular vacuuming, felt pads and a damp mop keep it in good shape.
