French Grey is a grey-toned engineered oak plank. Greys pair best with cool or neutral interiors, and they change noticeably with the light, so this is a board to see at home before you buy. Free samples are available from our showroom.
Construction: a 4 mm European oak wear layer on a layered core, 15 mm thick overall, in 1900 × 190 mm boards. Micro-bevelled edges, tongue and groove, and a matte brushed surface. Packs contain six boards (2.166 m²).
Grey oak looks cooler in south light and softer in warm afternoon sun. Under warm-white LED downlights at night it can read almost beige. That is normal, and it is why we suggest leaving a sample on the floor for a few days and checking it morning and evening.
White and charcoal kitchens, concrete-look benchtops, black tapware and cool-toned stone all sit well with it. It suits a modern townhouse in Mount Waverley or Burwood as much as a renovated weatherboard. Warm cream walls and orange-toned timber furniture are harder to match, so bring a paint chip or a cushion to the showroom and compare.
If you are choosing between French Grey and Smoke Grey, lay the two samples side by side on your floor. Smoke Grey also comes as a herringbone, so if you want a grey pattern floor somewhere in the house, that is the one to look at. Our grey shades guide covers what to look for.
As an engineered tongue and groove board, French Grey is glued down on a slab or fixed or floated over a timber subfloor. Before we start, the boards sit in the house to acclimatise and the subfloor gets a moisture reading. We leave expansion gaps at the walls, hidden by skirting or scotia.
Greys hide pale dust well. Vacuum, damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner, and use pads under chairs. The full range is in our engineered oak range.
