A large living area suits a board that can cover the distance without looking busy. Light Tan wide board puts our light, warm oak tone into longer 2200 × 220 mm boards. The colour is easy to live with, and the wider format suits open living areas where a narrow board can look fussy.

It is 15 mm engineered European oak with a 4 mm oak wear layer. The edges carry a micro bevel, the boards join with tongue and groove, and the surface is brushed with a matte finish. Six boards per pack, covering 2.904 m².

Where it works

Open kitchen-living-dining rooms, long rear extensions and new double-storey homes are the natural fit. In a knock-down rebuild in Balwyn North or Doncaster with a 10 metre run from the kitchen to the back doors, a 2.2 m board shows plenty of grain with few end joins. In a small bedroom, the standard plank is usually the better-proportioned choice.

Pairing and matching

If you would like to use the colour in more than one format, Light Tan also comes as a standard plank and in herringbone. Against it, white and pale timber joinery look clean, and green or terracotta accents bring out the warmth. For another warm wide board, compare Natural Oak wide board.

Installing wide boards

Engineered construction is what makes a 220 mm wide oak board practical, since it moves less with seasonal humidity than a solid board of the same width. It still needs a flat subfloor, so we check the whole area and level where needed. On a slab, boards are glued after a moisture test. Over timber, they are fixed or floated. Expansion gaps sit at the walls under skirting or scotia.

Care

Vacuum and damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Rugs at the back door catch grit from the garden. When the finish wears in a busy path years from now, the 4 mm wear layer can be sanded and recoated. See more on our warm browns page and the engineered oak range, or ask us for a free sample.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many packs of Light Tan wide board do I need for 70 m²?

Each pack covers 2.904 m². 70 m² plus about 7% for cuts is around 74.9 m², so 26 packs.

Is Light Tan wide board too big for bedrooms?

It can look out of scale in a small bedroom and creates more offcuts. Many clients use the wide board in living areas and the 1900 × 190 mm Light Tan plank in bedrooms.

Will a 220 mm wide oak board cup or move?

Engineered construction keeps wide boards more stable than solid boards of the same width. Acclimatising the boards, testing subfloor moisture and leaving expansion gaps all help.
