If a clean, uniform floor would feel too new for your house, St James is worth considering. It belongs to our reactive-finish series, where a brushed surface is treated with a reactive finish so the colour and grain vary across the floor. It suits older homes, farmhouse-style kitchens and rooms with exposed brick or recycled timber.
The specs are the same across the series: 1900 × 190 × 15 mm engineered European oak, 4 mm oak wear layer, micro bevel, tongue and groove, matte finish. Six boards per pack, 2.166 m² per pack.
A lot of houses around Hawthorn, Kew and Surrey Hills still have original features: leadlight, fireplaces, high skirtings. A flawless modern floor can look out of step next to them. The varied, matte look of St James sits closer to what an older floor looks like after years of use, without the gaps and cupping of tired original boards.
Busy households often choose this kind of board because, when the floor already has variation in it, a new scratch or dent blends in rather than standing out. The matte brushed surface helps too. The usual care still applies: keep grit off the floor, use felt pads on chairs and clean with a damp mop rather than a wet one.
St James is installed like the rest of our engineered oak, glued down over a slab or fixed over a timber subfloor once moisture and flatness are checked. Installers blend boards from several packs so the floor looks even overall.
It sits in our neutral grey shades. Compare it with Westminster and Oxburgh from the same series. For a uniform grey instead, see Smoke Grey.
Colour on screen is only a rough guide for a board like this, so we recommend taking a free sample home or seeing it at full size in our showroom at 2/1386 Toorak Road, Camberwell VIC 3124. Browse similar boards in our engineered oak range.

Questions
Yes, better than most boards. The board-to-board variation and matte brushed surface help new marks blend in, though felt pads and regular vacuuming are still worth doing.
Each pack covers 2.166 m². With about 10% extra you would order for 17.6 m², which is 9 packs.
It is a good fit. The varied, matte look sits comfortably next to original features like fireplaces and high skirtings.
