Jacobean rounds out our reactive-finish series and is the one of the four that sits with our lighter oak tones. Like Westminster, St James and Oxburgh, it has a brushed surface treated with a reactive finish, which draws out differences in the oak so the floor looks varied and rustic rather than uniform. The finish is matte.
It is 1900 × 190 × 15 mm engineered European oak with a 4 mm oak wear layer, micro bevel and tongue and groove joint, in packs of six boards (2.166 m²).
The finish reacts with the natural compounds in the oak, and each board takes it slightly differently. So no two boards match, and you should expect a mix of lighter and darker boards across the room. We lay from several packs at once to spread that variation evenly rather than ending up with a patch of dark boards in one corner.
Rustic boards are a good choice if you want a relaxed floor that you do not need to be precious about. Grain and colour variation hide everyday marks better than a flat, even board. Jacobean suits farmhouse-style kitchens, family rooms that open to the garden, and houses on bigger blocks out towards Templestowe and Bulleen where a relaxed floor fits the setting.
The other three boards, Westminster, St James and Oxburgh, sit in our grey shades. If you want the same rustic character in a cooler colour, start there. For a light oak without the variation, compare it with White Smoke.
Installation is the same as any of our engineered tongue and groove boards: acclimatise, check subfloor moisture and flatness, then glue down on concrete or fix or float over timber. Care is simple. Vacuum and damp mop. Small marks blend in, because the floor is meant to look lived-in. Questions
No. The reactive finish is taken up differently by each board, so expect a mix of lighter and darker boards. We lay from several packs at once to spread it evenly.
Its colour and grain variation hides everyday marks better than a flat, even board, and the matte brushed surface helps with fine scratches.
Each pack covers 2.166 m². 32 m² plus about 7% for cuts is roughly 34.2 m², so 16 packs.
