Jatoba Solid 18 mm is an imported hardwood, solid all the way through, 18 mm thick with a tongue and groove profile. It comes prefinished from the factory with 12 coats of water-based polyurethane, so the floor is already finished when it arrives. There is no sanding and coating on site after it is laid. Boards are 122 mm wide and a fixed 1820 mm long, in Select grade.
On our sample boards Jatoba is a salmon tan through to reddish brown, with darker streaks and some swirling figure. The board-to-board variation is noticeable but less pronounced than in Kempas. Jatoba is often called Brazilian cherry, and it is known to darken towards a deeper red-brown with exposure to light over time. It sits with our dark rich tones.
Janka hardness is 12 kN. That puts it above solid Spotted Gum at 11 kN, with only the two Ironbarks harder in our range. It is a good choice for kitchens, hallways and family rooms that see heavy use. Slip resistance is a D1 pass under AS 4586 Appendix B.
Kempas comes in the same 1820 × 122 mm board and Select grade. Kempas is more orange and copper and rates 9 kN, so Jatoba is the harder floor and the redder one once it has aged. Because every board is 1820 mm long, both give a more regular pattern of end joins than our random-length Australian species.
Solid boards are usually secret-fixed to joists or battens, or laid over a slab on a suitable base. Solid timber moves more with humidity than engineered board, so it needs time to acclimatise. It is not for bathrooms or laundries. For underfloor heating, our approved floor is engineered European oak; ask us before planning solid. See the full solid timber range.

Questions
Yes. Jatoba is known to darken towards a deeper red-brown with exposure to light. Rugs moved after a few months can leave a lighter patch that evens out as the uncovered area catches up.
Yes. Jatoba rates 12 kN on the Janka scale and Spotted Gum rates 11 kN. Only Grey Ironbark at 14 kN and Red Ironbark at 13 kN are harder in our solid range.
It can, on a suitable base such as battens or plywood, once the slab has been moisture tested. We look at the slab when we measure up and talk you through the options.
For homes, 25 years structural and 5 years on the factory coating. For commercial use, 10 years structural and 3 years on the coating. Structural cover is about the board itself; coating cover is about the finish. The exact term is confirmed on your quote, and our installation work and your Australian Consumer Law rights are separate.
