Spotted Gum Herringbone takes one of Australia's best known flooring timbers and lays it in a classic zigzag. Each block is engineered hardwood, 620 mm long, 127 mm wide and 14 mm thick, with a 3 mm Spotted Gum wear layer on a stable multi-layer core. The surface has a matt finish, micro bevelled edges and tongue and groove joins. A pack holds 24 blocks and covers about 1.89 m².
Colour and grain
Spotted Gum runs from soft brown through to rich chocolate and deeper reddish brown, with gum veins and the odd much darker board. Laid in herringbone, that variation turns into movement across the floor, so the floor draws the eye. It sits in our warm browns. Samples are a guide only; a finished floor always shows more variation than one or two blocks can.
About the 620 × 127 mm block
This block is smaller than our 900 × 150 mm oak herringbone. A smaller block gives a tighter, more traditional pattern, which suits hallways, period homes and rooms where you want the herringbone to read as texture. In a very large open room it looks busier, so you are welcome to bring your plans in and we can lay out a few blocks on the showroom floor.
Installing it
Herringbone is laid block by block and is normally glued to a flat, dry subfloor, with more cutting and waste than a straight plank. We check the subfloor and set out the pattern at the measure. Our approved floor for underfloor heating is engineered European oak, so please talk to us before planning Spotted Gum over heating. It is not suited to bathrooms or laundries.

Is Spotted Gum Herringbone solid timber?
It is engineered. The top 3 mm is real Spotted Gum and the layers underneath give the block stability. You see and walk on genuine Spotted Gum, the same as a solid board.
Can I run Spotted Gum herringbone in one room and straight Spotted Gum boards elsewhere?
Yes. We also carry Spotted Gum as engineered straight boards and as 18 mm solid boards. Colours vary between batches, so we compare the actual samples side by side before you order.
Can Spotted Gum Herringbone go over underfloor heating?
Our approved floor for underfloor heating is engineered European oak. Please talk to us before planning Spotted Gum herringbone over heating.
