Spotted Gum smooth shows off the natural variation of this Australian hardwood under a smooth, 10% gloss finish. The low gloss gives slightly more reflection than a matte floor, which brings out the colour and figure in the timber without looking shiny.
It is an engineered board, 14 mm thick with a 3 mm Spotted Gum wear layer, 180 mm wide and available in 1820 and 2100 mm lengths. Micro-bevelled edges and tongue and groove joints. Six boards in each pack, covering 1.966 m² or 2.268 m² depending on length.
Spotted Gum has strong colour variation, from paler boards through to deeper browns, often with a wavy grain. It sits in our warm browns. People who want an Australian timber rather than European oak tend to choose it, and it suits Australian-built homes of all eras, from post-war brick in Mitcham to a new build in Templestowe.
Spotted Gum is hard-wearing, but a smooth surface shows fine scratches more than a brushed one, and the low gloss catches the light at a low angle. It is a good fit for formal living rooms, bedrooms and studies. For a busy hallway or a family with a big dog, compare it with Spotted Gum matte brushed.
This is an engineered tongue and groove board, so it goes down like engineered oak: glued to a flat, moisture-tested slab or fixed over a timber subfloor. If you would prefer full-thickness solid boards, see Spotted Gum solid 18 mm.
For a paler hardwood, look at Blackbutt smooth. If you like the look but want a floating floor, NSW Spotted Gum laminate is the more affordable option. The full selection is in our Australian hardwood range.
Regular vacuuming to remove grit, felt pads and a damp mop will keep it in good condition. We recommend taking a free sample home to see the variation.

Questions
Spotted Gum is a hard timber, but the smooth 10% gloss surface shows fine scratches more than the matte brushed version. For heavy traffic or pets, the brushed board is the safer choice.
Packs cover 1.966 m² (1820 mm boards) or 2.268 m² (2100 mm boards). With about 10% extra, 22 m² comes to 12 packs of the shorter length or 10 packs of the longer.
It is engineered, with a 3 mm Spotted Gum wear layer on a 14 mm board. If you want full-thickness solid boards, we also supply 18 mm solid tongue-and-groove boards.
