Spotted Gum is one of the harder Australian species, with noticeable colour variation from board to board. The matte brushed version has a low-sheen, lightly textured surface, and it is the one we usually suggest for families and pets. The hardness resists dents, and the texture and grain variation hide scratches well.
Board details: 14 mm engineered board with a 3 mm Spotted Gum wear layer. 180 mm wide, 1820 or 2100 mm long. Micro bevel, tongue and groove. Six boards per pack, 1.966 m² or 2.268 m².
This board suits the busiest rooms in the house, such as kitchen and family areas with children and a dog, the path from the back door, or a hallway in a share house near Box Hill. Matte brushed hides the fine surface marks that show up on a gloss finish, and the busy grain disguises the rest. It is grouped in our dark and rich tones, although individual boards range from lighter to deeper brown.
As an engineered tongue and groove board, it is glued down on a slab or fixed over timber joists or a sheet subfloor. Concrete gets a moisture test first. If you would prefer full-thickness solid boards, please ask us. We can remove old carpet or boards on the same job; see floor removal and subfloor.
We recommend vacuuming up grit regularly, keeping pets' claws trimmed, using felt pads under chairs and cleaning with a damp mop. The 3 mm wear layer can usually take a light sand and recoat later on. The full hardwood range is in our Australian hardwood range, and free samples are available. For full-thickness boards in the same species, see Spotted Gum solid 18 mm.
